The night watch stands

The wind blows very cold,
My body’s numb, the earth turned stone,
For one long hour, I’ve taken hold,
In frost and silence, all alone.

The sky is clear, a glassy blue,
The moon above, it gently smiles,
The stars, they whisper soft and true,
While wind sings on for miles and miles.

The frozen trees, they creak and sway,
As wind cuts through with icy force,
Even wolves have lost their way,
For frost now reigns in full, of course.

I stand alone, my lonely post,
With fleeting glances, lost in thought,
Caught by a longing, a maddened ghost,
For love once found, then long forgot.

I slowly start to forget the chill,
And drift into a dreamy state,
I feel so small, yet filled with will,
A heart so wide, it challenges fate.

The morning star begins to rise,
It guides me softly through the dark,
Upon the horizon, it climbs the skies,
For us, it shines, a brightening spark.
